Herbal Remedies

Firstly, having foul breath should not always be looked at as a medical calamity, but it can be cause for alarm for other reasons. Though the major factor is the accumulation of excessive bacteria in the mouth, gum disease, periodontal disuse, kidney or liver disease or respiratory infection can also be important factors contributing to the bad breath. Once you start noticing bad breath, it’s can be a good idea to consult your dentist, but you can also try several different bad breath herbal remedies.

Like chewing parsley, basil and coriander – Some of the best known bad breath herbal remedies include the herbs rich in chlorophyll, such as the parsley, basil and coriander. Chlorophyll is a powerful mouth freshener and also has the deodorizing effect. These herbs can be eaten raw as well as alternatively adding them to certain food items. One can also make the tea out of them by boiling them in water.

Dill is also one of the best known herbal remedies and can be used like a breath mint. Just chewing a handful of dill leaves can instantly make your bad breath disappear. You can also make a tea by boiling dill leaves in water and steeping.

Anise seeds are also included in the bad breath herbal remedies group. To make a mouth wash out of it, just add a pinch of anise seeds to water and rinse your mouth after every meal. However, this should not substitute brushing after every meal, as it’s also an important step towards getting fresh breath.

Sage is also one of the most effective herbal remedies that can also help in the healing of oral infections. To make a tea out of it boil one tsp of chopped fresh sage leaves in water. Steep it, strain and drink the tea slowly to get the best effect.

Myrrh is another superb herbal remedy. It is an antibacterial herb, which kills the bacteria present in the mouth. Mix 5-10 drops in a glass of water and use it as a mouthwash. Adding a few mint leaves to the tea may enhance its freshness. Burble for ten seconds and spit it out.

Chewing fennel seeds is another common and time-tested breath freshener.

And finally peppermint – this herb can be used to cover the problem for sometime, but it cannot cure it. Just add two tablespoonfuls of crushed/chopped peppermint leaves, and its blossoming tops in a cup of water and boil it for ten minutes. Strain it and drink.
